H.C.R. No. 2  


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Sergeant Brian Baker suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this beloved young man in Iraq, on November 7, 2004, at the age of 27; and WHEREAS, A dedicated member of Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Sergeant Baker was killed while working to keep the peace in a foreign land; and WHEREAS, This courageous soldier was born September 6, 1977, in Springville, New York, and graduated from Springville Griffith-Institute High School in 1996; in his leisure time, Sergeant Baker enjoyed fishing, playing cards with his friends, and riding motorcycles; and WHEREAS, Above all else, he was devoted to his wife, Amy, and children, Coletin, Cadence, and Emily; and WHEREAS, Brian Baker's warm and ever-present smile, his easygoing nature, and his zest for life endeared him to his family and to a host of friends, and his thoughtfulness and concern for others touched many hearts; and WHEREAS, Notwithstanding the hardships that he faced in a war zone, Sergeant Baker performed his work with pride and professionalism, his steadfast commitment to his mission made all the more firm by a strongly felt desire to help the Iraqi people; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor, and this country, Brian Baker embodied the highest ideals of the armed services, and the blessing of his life will be forever treasured by those who were privileged to share in the warmth of his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby honor the life of U.S. Army Sergeant Brian Baker and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Amy Baker; to his son, Coletin; to his daughters, Cadence and Emily; to his parents, Greg and Holly Baker; to his brothers, Greg and Jesse Baker; to his sisters, Jenni and Michelle Baker; to his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dusty and Barbie Roach; to his sister-in-law, Sommer Strong; to his brother-in-law, Ross Roach; to his grandparents, Evelyn Baker and John and Helen Spengler; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Brian Baker.
