CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to have nearly 10,000 advanced practice nurses dedicated to improving the health and well-being of citizens across the state; and WHEREAS, These professionals have been represented since 1991 by the Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice, which was founded for the purpose of creating a legal and regulatory climate in which advanced practice nurses may use their full potential to provide excellent, cost-effective health care; and WHEREAS, Advanced practice nurses serve in a variety of capacities, and among those currently practicing in Texas are more than 350 certified nurse midwives, 1,400 clinical nurse specialists, 2,600 certified registered nurse anesthetists, and, making up the largest and most visible group in the profession, 5,500 nurse practitioners; and WHEREAS, One outstanding family nurse practitioner, Tim Flynn, has attended to the health care needs of legislators and Capitol Complex employees with exceptional skill and dedication since his appointment as Capitol Nurse in 1992; and WHEREAS, All 150 members of the Texas House of Representatives and 31 members of the Texas Senate, along with numerous statewide elected officials and staff members, would like to take this opportunity to recognize "Nurse Tim," as he is affectionately called, for the quality health care that he provides to elected officials and their staffs, as well as to recognize all advanced practice nurses for the commendable service they provide to the people of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas express its appreciation to Tim Flynn and to the advanced practice nurses of Texas by hereby proclaiming February 7, 2005, as Tim Flynn Day and Advanced Practice Nurses Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Flynn and for the Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice as an expression of high regard by the Texas Legislature.
