H.C.R. No. 92
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Respected businessman and civic leader Verlin
Callahan of Cedar Creek has served with great distinction for two
terms as president of the Independent Cattlemen's Association of
Texas (ICA); and
WHEREAS, An organization representing the interests of cow
producers, ICA has enjoyed Mr. Callahan's participation since its
inception; this dedicated member currently serves as the group's
ninth president, a position in which he has demonstrated
exceptional leadership and integrity; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his active involvement with ICA, Mr.
Callahan ranches and serves as president of several notable
companies, including Callahan's General Stores, Capitol Feed and
Milling Co., Farm-Tex Trucking, M&V Cattle Company, McQueeny Mill,
and Travis County Grains; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan has also donated his time and talents
to benefit a host of community boards and organizations in Bastrop
and Travis Counties and has further served on the National
Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board and as past president
of the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, he is supported
in all of his endeavors by his wife, Jonell, his three children, and
his four grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Verlin Callahan's efforts in behalf of ICA and the
wider Central Texas community have won him the admiration and
respect of many, and it is indeed fitting that he be commended for
his outstanding service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby honor Verlin Callahan for his fine tenure as president of the
Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas as well as for the
many significant contributions he has made to his fellow Texans
through his extensive community service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Callahan as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
