CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
	WHEREAS, Texas is deservedly known for its great foods, its 
natural beauty, and its friendly and sociable residents, and all 
three of these attributes combine to happy effect in the popular 
tradition known as the picnic; and
	WHEREAS, Although the practice of taking meals outdoors was a 
necessity for the intrepid pioneers who settled the state and the 
weatherbeaten cowboys who rode the ranges, with the advent of 
modern times it has become a treasured opportunity to enjoy fresh 
air and lovely scenery while sharing nature's bounty with friends 
and loved ones; and
	WHEREAS, The picnic is a luxury highly suitable to a 
democratic society, in that it may be enjoyed by people from every 
walk of life, and few pleasures in life can compare to a meal, no 
matter how simple, eaten out in the Texas countryside; and
	WHEREAS, The Lone Star State's temperate climate ensures that 
the picnic's popularity is not limited to the summer months, but it 
is during the summer that the greatest number of Texans go on these 
special outings, and it is therefore fitting that official 
recognition of this venerable institution be set for the start of 
the summer season; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas 
hereby designate June as Texas Picnic Month.
