CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Louis, Ben, Bill, and Rick Bolanos of El Paso have all manifested a deep love of their country through their valiant service in its armed forces and through their dedicated civic engagement; and WHEREAS, The only four brothers to serve in the Vietnam War at the same time, the Bolanos brothers were born in California and were living in Texas in the mid-1960s when they volunteered for duty in Southeast Asia; Louis went to Vietnam as a member of the Navy, Ben as a member of the Marine Corps, Bill as a member of the Army's Special Forces, also known as Green Berets, and Rick as a member of the Army Airborne; and WHEREAS, Three of the brothers fought together in the battle for Dong Ha, the chief logistics base for American and South Vietnamese operations in the north and a command base for two Marine divisions; in late April and early May 1968, the North Vietnamese tried to drive toward Dong Ha through the eastern part of the DMZ, but were repelled in heavy fighting; and WHEREAS, During the 2004 presidential campaign, the Bolanos brothers traveled extensively throughout the United States, encouraging veterans to vote and get involved in the political process; and WHEREAS, Instilled with a fervent patriotism by their father, who came to the United States to start a new life, the Bolanos brothers have answered their country's call with unfaltering courage and selflessness, and they have continued to exemplify the civic commitment that is so crucial to the vitality of this system of government; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby honor Louis, Ben, Bill, and Rick Bolanos for their devoted service to this country, both in war and in peace; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for these outstanding Texans as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
