CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A loving family and a host of dear friends celebrate the life of Colleen Tough of The Woodlands, who passed away on February 1, 2005, at the age of 76; and WHEREAS, Born in Michigan on February 4, 1928, Mrs. Tough married Coulson Tough, an architect and fellow Detroit native, in 1952; the couple lived in California for 15 years before moving to Texas in 1968, and in 1973 they became one of the first families to settle in The Woodlands; and WHEREAS, A loving and devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Tough supported her family whole-heartedly in their myriad endeavors; she became a stalwart volunteer with the Conroe Livestock Show and Rodeo when her daughter, Cindy, was involved in FFA, and she hosted many a late-night card game for her son, Bruce, and his friends; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Tough was a charter member and valued congregant of The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church; an avid tennis player, she was instrumental in organizing The Woodlands Women's Tennis League; in addition, she loved travel and particularly enjoyed Las Vegas, not least, perhaps, because she was also a skilled poker player; and WHEREAS, Enduring repeated bouts of cancer with grace and determination, she became a highly effective advocate who played a key role in winning several grants and research donations for M. D. Anderson Hospital; moreover, she gave of her time without reserve to encourage and support others struggling with the disease; and WHEREAS, Colleen Tough was dearly loved for her gentleness and kindness and for her irrepressible effervescence, and she will be sorely missed by all who had the great privilege of sharing in the richness of her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the life of Colleen Tough and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Coulson Tough; to her son, Bruce Tough, and his wife, Diana; to her granddaughters, Madison, Tara, Abby, and Sydney; to her grandson, Alex Grunenfelder, and his father, Brian Grunenfelder; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Colleen Tough.
