H.C.R. No. 163


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Charles and Margaret Semple of Midland are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary on July 31, 2005, and this happy occasion certainly merits special recognition; and WHEREAS, The devoted couple met while attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where they both majored in business; after an engagement party in the three-month-old Astrodome, they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston on July 31, 1965; they lived briefly in New York and Houston before settling in Midland, where their sons, Chas and Brian, were born; and WHEREAS, The former Margaret Wunsch was born on August 14, 1943, in Galesburg, Illinois, and moved with her family to Houston in the mid-1940s; she is an avid reader who has sold real estate and taught elementary school, and she has such diverse interests as photography, quilting, bird-watching, needlepoint, genealogy, and Ebay; she has dedicated countless volunteer hours to the Junior League of Midland, First Baptist Church, and Midland Hospice Care; and WHEREAS, Born on October 25, 1940, in Caddo, Oklahoma, Charles Odell Semple grew up in the Helmerich & Payne and Halliburton oilfield camps in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico; he has been a stockbroker, a land-man, and an investor in the oil and gas industry; he spends his free time fishing, hunting, and restoring vintage cars, including his prize Stutz; his shop is a gathering place for Monday Night Football, where the score takes a backseat to the camaraderie, but his favorite pastime just may be cooking with his friends as part of the infamous Goat Mobile Gang; and WHEREAS, Charlie and Margaret Semple have shared four decades of love and affection for each other, enjoying many special moments with their loved ones, and their enduring union remains an inspiration to all those who have shared in its joy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Charles and Margaret Semple on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Semple as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
