CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Randolph Robert Reed of Pearland completed the BP
MS150 Bike Ride on April 17, 2005, at the age of 48, having ridden
180 miles on a bicycle from Houston to Austin with 13,000 other
people to raise money for those afflicted with multiple sclerosis;
and
WHEREAS, Despite not having trained for the competition, Mr.
Reed was inspired to join the effort by his desire to aid this
important cause, and his favorite brother-in-law, State
Representative John E. Davis, contributed to his success by
providing him with moral support throughout the grueling journey;
and
WHEREAS, While a student at Texas A&M University, Mr. Reed
was a valued member of the Fighting Texas Aggies Corps of Cadets and
the Ross Volunteers, the honor guard of the Governor of Texas; with
his 1980 graduation from the university, he became one of only six
cadets nationwide to receive the Department of the Army's
Distinguished Military Graduate Award, and he went on to serve this
state and nation with distinction in the U.S. Army and the Texas
National Guard until 1988; today, this successful businessman is a
certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner; and
WHEREAS, By participating in the BP MS150 Bike Ride, Randy
Reed has reaffirmed the high esteem in which he is held by all who
know him, while benefiting a very worthy cause; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate Randolph Robert Reed on completing the BP MS150
Bike Ride and commend him for his selfless efforts to help his
fellow Texans living with multiple sclerosis; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Reed as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives and Senate.
