H.C.R. No. 175
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
temper the profound sadness that the passing of Dave L. Rodgers of
Paris on December 5, 2004, at the age of 64, brings to all who loved
him; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 22, 1940, in the Post Oak community, Mr.
Rodgers graduated from Paris High School and attended Paris Junior
College and East Texas State University; on July 17, 1964, he
married Beverly Coston in Paris; and
WHEREAS, A professional singer in his younger days, Mr.
Rodgers sang bass for The Prophets Quartet from 1964-1969,
recording many albums with the group while living in Knoxville and
Nashville; he later was associated with Lone Star Coaches as a
driver and tour guide; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rodgers was a valued member of the community and
congregant of East Paris Baptist Church, where he participated in
the Sunday school; his favorite activities included singing and
being a handyman; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband and caring family man, Mr. Rodgers
shared many happy times and cherished memories with his loved ones;
while his presence is deeply missed, he will not soon be forgotten,
for his spirit will be kept alive in the hearts of those who were
fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby pay tribute to the life of Dave L. Rodgers and extend sincere
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Beverly; to his
two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Rob Willoughby and Nikki
and Steven Hammer; to his three grandchildren, Caleb Willoughby,
Joshua Willoughby, and Lindi Hammer; to his two brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Travis and Jean Coston and Melba and Martin Epps;
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Dave L. Rodgers.
