CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
temper the profound sadness that the passing of William Merritt
Noel of Paris on August 2, 2004, at the age of 86, brought to all who
loved him; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 19, 1917, in Terre Haute, Indiana,
Mr. Noel graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in
Terre Haute with a mechanical and electrical engineering degree; he
married Helen Tod Larrance on December 27, 1941, then served with
distinction in World War II as a member of the 82nd Airborne
Division in the European Theatre and was discharged in August 1945
with the rank of major; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Noel worked for 34 years with the Campbell Soup
Company and retired as a manager of engineering and maintenance; he
was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Founders Lions
Club, and Paris Golf and Country Club; and
WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, his memory lives on in
the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known him; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby pay tribute to the life of William Merritt Noel and extend
sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Helen
Tod Noel; to his sons, Larrance Merritt Noel and his son, William
Merritt Noel II, and Merritt Andrew Noel and his wife, Delise, and
their children, Thomas Andrew Noel, Taylor Larrance Noel, and Kelly
Elizabeth Noel; to his sister, Naomi Heaton; and to his other
relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
William Merritt Noel.
