HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The community of Blanco will host a memorable event on the weekend of May 20-22, 2005, when citizens from across the Lone Star State will travel to this charming Central Texas community to take part in the first annual Blanco Lavender Festival; and WHEREAS, Blanco has long been known for its quaint town square and its beautiful environs, but in recent years it has also become known as a center for lavender growing, based on the proximity of numerous lavender farms in the area; and WHEREAS, These farms will be open to the public for touring and blossom cutting during the festival, and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a host of activities, including classes in aromatherapy and demonstrations of lavender oil distillation; and WHEREAS, In addition, a Growers' Dinner is being held to showcase a surprising and delightful selection of lavender-infused products, including lavender chicken in champagne sauce, lavender raspberry and blackberry cream tart, and lavender margaritas; and WHEREAS, The Blanco Lavender Festival provides a time for many to set aside the cares of daily life and enjoy the flowering beauty of our Texas spring; promising to be a splendid addition to our state's array of recreational opportunities, this highly anticipated event honors the distinctive herb for which the community has become known, and it is fitting that Blanco's prominence as a lavender producer be duly recognized; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby designate the Blanco Lavender Festival as the Official Lavender Festival of Texas.
