CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, J. E. "Gene" Buster, a former Lamar County commissioner, passed away on May 22, 2004, at the age of 75, leaving his loved ones many happy memories to cherish from his long and productive life; and WHEREAS, Born on October 5, 1928, in Woodstown, Oklahoma, Mr. Buster graduated from Central High School in Sumner in 1946 and went on to earn degrees from Southern Methodist University and Lamar Business College; he served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1954, during which time he married Kikue Mori in Tokyo, Japan; and WHEREAS, A dairy farmer and rancher, he owned and operated the Buster Dairy Farm from 1956 to 1970 and later operated the Country Store at Emberson; throughout his life, he always made time to work in behalf of his fellow citizens in a variety of civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, Mr. Buster was the Lamar County commissioner of Precinct 3 from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1992 to 1996, and he was recognized as a dedicated public servant by his peers in the community; he enjoyed membership with the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, the Lamar County Democratic Party, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and Lamar County, and he also served as president of the Mount Tabor Cemetery Association; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman was affiliated with Odd Fellows, the Lions Club, the Red River Valley Fair Association, and the Lamar Point Volunteer Fire Department; he was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, 4-H, the Senior Citizen Board, and Sumner United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and as a member of the Methodist Men of North Lamar Parish; and WHEREAS, A loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, Gene Buster was that rare individual who put the needs of others above his own personal needs, and although he is dearly missed by his family and friends, his spirit lives on through his myriad contributions to his community and his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the life of J. E. "Gene" Buster and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Mori; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Linda Buster and Roy and Carol Buster; to his grandchildren, Mori and Jeb Buster; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Bill Hickman, Janice and Roy Winford, and Linda Reynolds; to his brother, Jack Buster; and to the many other relatives and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of J. E. "Gene" Buster.
