H.C.R. No. 198
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Cory Morris of Powderly won first place in the 2005
State SkillsUSA Championships, and the memory of this outstanding
achievement will undoubtedly remain with him for years to come; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 4,000 students compete in the annual
event hosted by SkillsUSA-VICA, a national organization that seeks
to provide quality educational experiences promoting leadership,
teamwork, citizenship, and character development for students
preparing for careers in technical, skilled, and service
occupations; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Morris, under the able direction of his teacher,
Bo Bolton, studied diligently and devoted many hours to
understanding the fundamentals of the automobile; as a result, he
won first place at the SkillsUSA district and state competitions,
earning money that will help pay for his college education; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation from North Lamar High School, Mr.
Morris plans to attend Eastfield College in Mesquite, where he has
enrolled in the Toyota T-TEN program in hopes of representing the
USA at the international automotive competition in 2007; after
college, he plans to work in a dealership as a master diagnostic
technician and perhaps one day open his own dealership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Morris is a source of great pride to his parents,
Geneva and Chuck Morris of Powderly, and he has distinguished
himself as a young man of immense ability and potential; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate Cory Morris on his first place win at the 2005
SkillsUSA state competition and extend to him best wishes for
success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Morris as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives and Senate.
