CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On April 23, 2005, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and native Texan Antonio O. Garza, Jr., married Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala of Mexico City in Valle de Bravo to the delight of some 400 honored guests; and WHEREAS, Appointed to the ambassadorship by President George W. Bush in 2002, Tony Garza is a former Texas secretary of state and railroad commissioner who holds an undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law; recognized as an Outstanding Young Texas Ex in 1989 and an SMU Distinguished Alumnus in 2001, Ambassador Garza has twice been named as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics" by Hispanic Business magazine; and WHEREAS, His bride, who is known to her friends as Mariasun, is the vice chair of Grupo Modelo, the maker of Corona and Negra Modelo beers, and is recognized as one of the world's most powerful women in business; the heiress to the company that was founded by her grandfather, Ms. Aramburuzabala has been credited with building up the business and diversifying the family fortune; and WHEREAS, Ambassador Garza first met Ms. Aramburuzabala at a party shortly after his appointment to the Mexico post, but they didn't begin dating until the fall of 2004; they became engaged on New Year's Eve during a trip to Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca city high in the Peruvian Andes; and WHEREAS, Before the civil ceremony in April, the couple exchanged vows in a small religious service held at a Catholic church near Mexico City in February 2005; the civil union was part of a three-day event in the picturesque resort town of Valle de Bravo, just outside Mexico City, which included several treasured cultural traditions prevalent on both sides of the border; and WHEREAS, Ambassador Garza and Ms. Aramburuzabala are indeed fortunate to have found one another, and it is a pleasure to honor them as they embark on their journey as husband and wife; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Ambassador Tony Garza and Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala on their marriage and extend to them sincere best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
