CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Detective Deanna Tofte of the Wichita Falls Police Department received the first All Star Hero award from the FOX television program America's Most Wanted in May 2005; and WHEREAS, The AMW crew teamed up with Nextel Communications, Inc., to find a law enforcement officer or first responder who is dedicated to serving the public on the front lines and has gone above and beyond the call of duty; viewers nominated thousands of the best police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel in the nation, and Detective Tofte was selected as the winner by tens of thousands of online voters; in addition to appearing on the television program, this outstanding Texan will be treated to a VIP day at the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge and awarded a check for $10,000; and WHEREAS, Officer Tofte has been an invaluable asset to the Wichita Falls Police Department for the past nine years, five of which have been spent in the Crimes Against Children Unit, where she has tirelessly striven to put sexual predators and child abusers behind bars; spending much of her time on the streets investigating, she has worked more than 1,000 abuse cases, handling more than 100 of the cases covered by her department last year; and WHEREAS, While the demands of her job are strenuous and emotionally grueling, this dedicated officer has risen to the challenge and been a tireless and passionate champion of the victims of abuse, and her diligent efforts have indeed made the Lone Star State a better and safer place for our children; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Deanna Tofte on winning the 2005 America's Most Wanted All Star Hero award and extend to her heartfelt best wishes for continued success with her vital work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Detective Tofte as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
