H.C.R. No. 224


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In May 2005, Eddie Almond is retiring as director of the Regional Controlled Substance Apprehension Program Drug Task Force, drawing to a close an outstanding 38-year career in law enforcement; and WHEREAS, After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Almond joined the Lubbock Police Department in 1965, and two years later he became a highway patrol officer; while assigned to the Sulphur Springs area, Mr. Almond took advantage of the GI Bill to study at what is now Texas A&M University--Commerce, where he earned a degree in criminal justice; and WHEREAS, In 1975, Mr. Almond became one of the youngest men in an 84-member Texas Ranger team, launching a distinguished tenure with the Texas Ranger Service that included his participation in the investigation following the 1993 Branch Davidian raid near Waco; he retired in 1994 to become deputy sheriff in Lamar County, and the following year he was named commander of the regional drug task force; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Almond enjoys the love and support of his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he has shared 38 years of marriage; retirement will undoubtedly afford him the opportunity to spend more time with his family as well as to indulge in his favorite leisure activities; and WHEREAS, Mr. Almond has served the law enforcement profession with integrity and dedication, consistently demonstrating a willingness to work all hours of the day and take on arduous tasks to accomplish his mission; he has earned the lasting respect of all who have worked with him, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity to honor him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate Eddie Almond on his retirement as director of the Regional Controlled Substance Apprehension Program Drug Task Force in Lamar County, commend him on 38 years of outstanding service in law enforcement, and extend to him best wishes for happiness in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Almond as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
