CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On the second Tuesday in January of odd-numbered years, the members of the legislature willingly put their everyday lives on hold to gather in Austin to attempt to resolve situations of pressing import to the state and to find innovative ways to contribute to the economic and social well-being of the constituencies they serve; and WHEREAS, Initially, excitement is in the air as an influx of both seasoned veterans and idealistic new members join together to address these issues but, as the session progresses, tempers can flare and enthusiasm can wane as serious problems remain, time grows short, and personal legislative projects are grounded; and WHEREAS, For many, the day after sine die adjournment is the dawn of a new day when members can return to their districts and appreciate once again how much their actions contribute to the lives of those around them; and WHEREAS, While at this point in the session it is difficult to imagine a light at the end of the tunnel without a large train obstructing one's view, legislative members can take great pride in their achievements to date and take comfort in the reminder that soon "this too shall pass"; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby designate the day after sine die adjournment of the regular session as Texas Smile Day since a smile will be proper attire for all legislative members given the accomplishments of the legislative session that will surely contribute to the continued progress and vitality of the Lone Star State.
