R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Richardson Republican Women's Club has long been an integral part of its North Texas community, and it is most appropriate to honor this distinguished group of citizens for their many noteworthy accomplishments; and WHEREAS, The Richardson Republican Women's Club was founded in 1958, and its members have worked through the years for better government and for the betterment of their community, giving generously of their time and diverse talents to a host of worthy initiatives; these dedicated individuals regularly participate in outreach and literacy programs and have provided financial support to the public libraries of Texas for more than four decades; and WHEREAS, The club has received the Dallas County Council of Republican Women Executive Committee's Certificate of Appreciation, the Texas Federation of Republican Women's Certificate of Merit, the Participation, Activity, and Teamwork (PAT) Award, the John Goodwin Tower Award of Excellence, and many others; several of the members have also been given such special recognition as the Volunteer of the Year for Texas and commendations from the Dallas County Republican Party; and WHEREAS, Last year the Richardson Republican Women's Club lost one of its most devoted and esteemed members, Virginia Steenson, who died on February 14, 2004; Ms. Steenson was a charter member of the RRW, an extremely active community volunteer, and a former member of the SREC; and WHEREAS, The year 2004 also included many happy events for the Richardson Republican Women's Club; it was honored to have a record number of members participate in the convention process at the precinct, senatorial, and state levels, and two members were national delegates at the convention in New York City; and WHEREAS, Members of the Richardson Republican Women's Club can take great pride in their myriad accomplishments as well as in their enduring contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the efforts of the Richardson Republican Women's Club and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of this organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
