R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Myrtle Cruz of Pearland, a successful businesswoman
who has rendered exceptional service to water districts in the Lone
Star State, indeed merits special praise as she observes her 81st
birthday; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born Myrtle Amencie Lilley
on January 26, 1924, in Dallardsville in Polk County; after
graduating from high school, she found employment in oil and other
industries and embarked on a career as a registered stockbroker;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Cruz subsequently handled bookkeeping
responsibilities for attorney Cyril Smith and for the municipal
utility districts he organized; in 1978, she founded Myrtle Cruz,
Inc., to provide bookkeeping services to municipal utility
districts, and this company today represents more than 200 special
interest districts; and
WHEREAS, A founding member of the Association of Water Board
Directors--Texas (AWBD), Ms. Cruz long served on its advisory
council and continues to attend the association's meetings and
related conferences; in recognition of her outstanding
contributions, she was chosen in 1992 to receive an AWBD Vision
Award, and in 2003, she was named the first emeritus member of the
AWBD advisory council; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman participates in community
life as an active congregant of Freeway Manor Church and takes
pleasure in travel; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life and her notable career, Myrtle
Cruz has exemplified the virtues of dedication, integrity, and
innovation, and it is a privilege to honor her at this time; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Myrtle Cruz for all her accomplishments
on the joyous occasion of her 81st birthday and extend to her best
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Cruz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
