R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Nila Gay Berry of Katy passed away on September 25, 2004, at the age of 61, leaving behind a host of loved ones who treasured her presence in their lives; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born on April 16, 1943, to Frank and Lorna Maynard, in a fieldstone ranch house built by her father in Travis County, and grew up in a close-knit family with her four sisters, Ruthey, Frankie, Ina, and Linda; and WHEREAS, Nila Maynard graduated from Leander High School in 1961, and that same year she married the love of her life, Harley Ray Berry, at Liberty Hill Church of Christ, embarking on a marriage that brought great joy to that fortunate couple and to all their loved ones; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Berry and her husband established their first home in Odessa, where she completed business school and where they began their family of four cherished children; the Berrys later relocated to Deer Park, and in 1975 they moved to Katy; and WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, this lovely lady was also a woman of deep faith and a valued member of Memorial Church of Christ; Mrs. Berry enjoyed, as well, a respected place in her community, putting much energy into her accounting career as well as community service; she held the post of comptroller at GRM Food Services from 2001 to 2004 and was president of the West Memorial Municipal Utility District for nearly 15 years; and WHEREAS, Nila Gay Berry was a blessing in the lives of countless people, and the memory of her love and guidance will long remain in the hearts of those who shared in the unfailing warmth of her care and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Nila Gay Berry and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Harley Ray Berry; to her children, Carla Tarrance, Mark Berry, Gayla Gaudette, and Brandon Berry; to her grandson, Davis Gaudette; to her sisters, Ruthey Brinson, Ina Rychlik, and Linda Wade; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nila Gay Berry.
