H.R. No. 17 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Denny Dannenbaum has been named the 2004 Houston Engineer of the Year by the Greater Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE), and this well-deserved honor presents an ideal opportunity to reflect on this esteemed Texan's numerous contributions to his profession and his community; and WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Dannenbaum holds licenses in professional engineering and professional land surveying in Texas and Louisiana, and for four decades has served as the president and CEO of Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation, the consulting firm that he founded; and WHEREAS, His company's many noteworthy accomplishments include the organization of the Acres Homes project, the master engineering plan for Lake Livingston's Waterwood development, the master plan development of the West Harris County Regional Water Authority, and the organization of Brownsville's first large-scale seawater desalination project; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dannenbaum's stature among his professional peers is evident from the many honors they have accorded him, and since being named the Outstanding Young Engineer of the Sam Houston Chapter of the TSPE in 1967, he has gone on to serve on the organization's Young Engineers Committee on Public Affairs and to chair its Engineers' Council on State Affairs; moreover, he has served as a director and president of the Coastal Industrial Water Authority and a member of the executive committee of the Texas Water Foundation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dannenbaum has also lent his time and expertise to a number of other organizations, including The University of Texas Civil Engineering Visiting Committee, the Texas Water Foundation Executive Committee, the Greater Houston Partnership, The University of Texas Natural Science Foundation, and The University of Texas System Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property Management; and WHEREAS, In recognizing Mr. Dannenbaum for his myriad professional accomplishments, the TSPE also honors a concerned and compassionate citizen whose contributions to the common good extend far beyond his work as an engineer and businessman; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate James Denny Dannenbaum on being named the 2004 Engineer of the Year by the Greater Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and commend him on his outstanding career achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dannenbaum as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
