H.R. No. 27 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Westlake High School Lady Chaparrals volleyball team has achieved the pinnacle of success by capturing the 2004 Class 5A State Volleyball Championship; and WHEREAS, The Lady Chaps completed the 2004 season with a remarkable 43-1 record that included winning the Duncanville Tournament of Champions, the New Braunfels Volleyfest, and the Pearland Katrinka Jo Crawford Memorial Tournament; in addition, the team went undefeated in division play and was ranked third in the nation at season's end; and WHEREAS, Coach Al Bennett and assistant coaches Lynne Bryant, Amy Hughes, and Caroline Valent schooled the Lady Chaps in the importance of teamwork and fundamentals, while also emphasizing the value of sportsmanship and scholarship; their efforts resulted in superior performances by team members both on and off the court; and WHEREAS, Team members include state tournament Co-MVPs Kelsey Bryant and Kelsey Wood, all-tournament players Shannon Davis and Tedi Doucet, seniors Steffi Kons, Lauren Thomas, Sarah Griess, Jamie Weidemann, Lauren DiGiovanni, Missa Young, Crystie Collora, Jen Linder, Katy Galow, and Jordan Lloyd, juniors Lauren Dixon, Margot Weidemann, Sarah Camp, Mallory Pickrell, and Mia Chamblee, and sophomore Mary Catherine Aune; and WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the dream of every high school athlete, and the coaches and players of the Westlake High School Lady Chaparrals volleyball team have made that long-sought dream a reality; this tremendous achievement is a credit to their determination and commitment to excellence, and the memory of this accomplishment will stay with them for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Al Bennett and the members of the Westlake High School Lady Chaparrals volleyball team on winning the 2004 Class 5A State Volleyball Championship and extend best wishes to the many individuals who contributed to the team's success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
