H.R. No. 46 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of Galveston lost a talented physician, esteemed neighbor, and devoted friend with the untimely passing of Dr. Michael Patrick O'Malley on January 30, 2004, at the age of 42; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Dr. O'Malley was born on August 2, 1961, in Brenham, to proud parents Dan and JoAnn O'Malley and to grandparents Bernadette and Desmond Neitzel, Agnes O'Malley, and the late Arthur O'Malley; and WHEREAS, Raised in Katy with his brother, Bobby, and sisters, Laurie and Susie, he was a gifted athlete at Katy High School, where he was named all-district and Katy Outstanding Lineman in his senior year; this accomplished student also participated in the statewide debate competition, played a key role in school leadership through student council and the National Honor Society, and was a valued parishioner at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, Dr. O'Malley went on to graduate from Baylor University and earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston; over the course of his career, he made many important contributions to his profession through his active involvement as a delegate to the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association, and through his service as vice president of the Galveston County Medical Society; and WHEREAS, Committed and caring, Dr. O'Malley also lent his time and talents to the UTMB School of Medicine, the Area Health Education Center, and to the homeless of Galveston, with his exceptional work earning him a 2004 Top Doc Award from more than 250 student preceptors; in addition, he was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 9978 through St. Peter's Catholic Church in Galveston; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Michael Patrick O'Malley will not soon forget the compassion, dedication, and integrity he brought to every facet of his life; although he is gone from us now, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Michael Patrick O'Malley and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Kerry O'Malley; to his children, Megan and Mitchell O'Malley; to his parents, Dan and JoAnn O'Malley; to his brother and family, Bob and Patti O'Malley, Kenny, Abby, and Corianne; to his sister and family, Laurie and Kevin McLoughlin, Katie, Ryan, and Mary; to his sister and family, Susie and Jim Murray, Daniel, Wesley, Alyssa, and Jonathon; to his grandmother, Agnes O'Malley; to his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Kay Potts; to his brother-in-law, Kirby Potts; to his aunts and uncles, Dick and Marcena O'Malley, Allen and Mary Ann Eichler, Tom and Diana Neitzel, Jim and Anna Neitzel, Mike and Wende Neitzel, and Donny and Linda Ryan; to his 22 first cousins; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Michael Patrick O'Malley.
