R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving
moments, and meaningful accomplishments may console and comfort the
family and friends of Stuart M. DeLuca of Austin, who passed from
this life on January 5, 2005, at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago on October 25, 1942, Mr. DeLuca
graduated from Calume High School, where he met his future wife,
Joan Baker; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in fine arts from
Illinois Wesleyan University and a master's degree in fine arts
from The University of Texas at Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLuca was a writer by trade, a humanitarian at
heart; he authored a host of textbooks, several screenplays, and
The Book of Principles, based on his religious, ethical, and moral
beliefs, but perhaps his greatest contributions came through his
dedicated service in behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, he joined with his brother, Sheldon, to
found the Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA), a group that
aims to serve, promote, and protect the interests of the families of
persons convicted of serious crimes in Texas; this commendable
organization also works to address criminal justice system reform
and foster more effective rehabilitation of offenders, to the
benefit of all; and
WHEREAS, He also lent his time and talents to serving as chair
of the board of directors of the fund-raising federation, Another
Way Texas Shares, as president of his REACT team and editor of the
bimonthly magazine REACT International, and as secretary of the
local unit of the Texas State Association of Parliamentarians; and
WHEREAS, Stuart DeLuca was a caring and compassionate man who
was a source of joy and inspiration to a great many people; though
his presence will be deeply missed, he leaves behind a legacy of
altruistic service that will have a lasting and profound impact on
the lives of countless Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Stuart M. DeLuca and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
Joan DeLuca; to his son, David DeLuca, and his wife, Kim; to his
daughter, Patty Byars, and her husband, Larry; to his
grandchildren, Millicent and Christopher DeLuca and Trevor and
Cassidy Byars; to his mother, June DeLuca; to his brothers, Sheldon
DeLuca, Paul DeLuca, Brian DeLuca, and his wife, Priscilla, and
Christopher DeLuca and his wife, Sandra; to his mother-in-law,
Bertha Baker; to his brother-in-law, Richard Baker, and his wife,
Pat; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Stuart
M. DeLuca.
