H.R. No. 56 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving moments, and meaningful accomplishments comfort the family and friends of Dr. Roy Virgil Palmer, Sr., of Abilene, who died on December 23, 2004, at the age of 86; and WHEREAS, Born on November 17, 1918, in Yuma, Arizona, Mr. Palmer grew up in San Antonio and attended Abilene Christian College from 1936 to 1940, earning a bachelor's degree in music; while teaching band in Canyon, he married the love of his life, Iva Jaxie Lewis, on February 23, 1940; and WHEREAS, The Palmers moved to California a short time later and, in 1943, he began preaching in The Dalles, Oregon; after earning his master of arts degree in Bible at Pepperdine University in 1947, Mr. Palmer embarked on a lifetime of missionary work that took him and his family to Germany, Southern Rhodesia, and numerous stateside churches; moreover, he taught Bible at Abilene Christian College from 1955 to 1957 and from 1961 to 1962 and earned his doctoral degree in education from the University of Michigan in 1968; and WHEREAS, Mr. Palmer spent his final years living in Abilene, where he was a valued member of the community and a devoted congregant at the University Church of Christ; and WHEREAS, This esteemed spiritual leader, noted educator, and devoted family man played a positive role in the lives of countless individuals worldwide who were fortunate enough to have known him, and his memory will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy Virgil Palmer and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Iva Jaxie Palmer; to his four daughters, Jerry Palmer, Carroll Duvall, Mary Etta Hobbs, and Rebecca Michaud; to his three sons, Charles Palmer, Richard Palmer, and Philip Palmer; to his 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Roy Virgil Palmer, Sr. Hunter ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
