R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dionne Phillips Bagsby of Fort Worth is retiring from her position as Tarrant County Commissioner of Precinct No. 1, concluding a distinguished 16-year tenure that has been characterized by integrity and excellence; and WHEREAS, Ms. Bagsby has provided strong leadership and vision as a member of the commissioners court since 1989, when she became the first woman and first minority to earn election to that governmental body; and WHEREAS, In addition to the important role she has played as a county commissioner, she has lent her time and talents to a host of worthy groups, serving on the board of directors of the Van Cliburn Foundation, the Tarrant County Housing Finance Corporation, and the Community Justice Council; trained as an educator, she has also benefited a number of organizations beyond the borders of Tarrant County through her service on the boards of regents of Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas College, and as a board member of the High Frontier Residential Treatment Center in Fort Davis and the Valmora Residential Treatment Center in Valmora, New Mexico; and WHEREAS, Duly recognized for her accomplishments, Ms. Bagsby has been named Executive Woman of the Year by the Zonta Club of Fort Worth, Professional of the Year by the Association of Retarded Citizens, and Most Influential Woman in Business by the Fort Worth Business Press; she has also received the Edwina P. Allen, Daughters of Destiny Community Service Award; and WHEREAS, This esteemed public servant is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University who holds certification in speech/pathology from George Peabody College for Teachers and a master's degree from Texas Christian University; an alumnus of Leadership Fort Worth, she is currently a member of Forum Fort Worth; and WHEREAS, Through her dedication and commitment, Dionne Bagsby has gained the respect and appreciation of countless citizens of Tarrant County, and her many friends and colleagues wish her every happiness as she embarks on this new chapter in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Dionne Phillips Bagsby on her retirement from the Tarrant County Commissioners Court and commend her for her years of exemplary service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Bagsby as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
