R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Norman Moorehead is retiring as executive director of the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, drawing to a close an outstanding 32-year tenure with the agency; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Butler College in Tyler, Mr. Moorehead went on to earn a master's degree in education from Texas Southern University, a second master's degree in education from North Texas State University, and a master's degree in public health from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; and WHEREAS, Mr. Moorehead served with the Laneville Independent School District as a high school principal and assistant superintendent before accepting a position as a health program specialist with the Texas Department of Health; in that capacity, he helped to coordinate a comprehensive network of health services for 36 counties in Northeast Texas; and WHEREAS, Since joining the Dallas Area Agency on Aging in 1972, Mr. Moorehead has been instrumental in the development of numerous important services for the elderly residents of Dallas County; his leadership has enabled the establishment of the first Aging Information Office in the county as well as 31 Senior Centers and the Family Caregiver Support Program; he has also contributed to special population programs, such as La Voz del Anciano, the Richard Hsu Activity Center, the Deaf Action Center, and the Dallas Lighthouse; moreover, Mr. Moorehead has shared his expertise with others through his involvement in myriad professional associations; and WHEREAS, Norman Moorehead has served the Dallas Area Agency on Aging with integrity and dedication for more than three decades, earning the lasting respect of all who have been privileged to work with him, and it is a pleasure to recognize his exemplary career as he embarks on this exciting new chapter in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Norman Moorehead on his retirement from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Moorehead as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
