H.R. No. 73 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas Rangers are among the world's best-known law enforcement organizations, and their astonishing exploits have earned them a permanent place in the history of the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, The forebears of today's Texas Rangers were the seasoned scouts and frontiersmen assembled by Stephen F. Austin in 1823 for a raid on hostile Indians, but it was not until 1835 that a specific law enforcement organization called the Texas Rangers was authorized by lawmakers; and WHEREAS, In keeping with its stature as an early colonial center of communication and commerce, San Felipe was the site at which these intrepid lawmen gathered; and WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that these historic events be commemorated for the benefit of future generations of Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the founding of the Texas Rangers and acknowledge San Felipe as the group's historical birthplace.
