H.R. No. 79 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The students, faculty, and staff of E. A. Sigler Elementary School in Plano are celebrating the school's 40th anniversary in 2005; and WHEREAS, Under the able direction of its principal, Sandra Muzquiz, Sigler Elementary currently serves about 500 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade; while focusing on academics, the school also offers a variety of subsidiary programs, including technology, parenting classes, counseling, library services, fine arts, and athletics; with a recent rating of Recognized School by the Texas Education Agency, Sigler is successfully carrying out its stated mission to "prepare students to excel in a diverse and changing world"; and WHEREAS, The school was named for Emory Alvin Sigler, the administrator who served the Plano Independent School District for more than four decades; originally hired as a coach, teacher, and principal for Plano High School, he was appointed to the post of superintendent in 1927 and his 34-year influential tenure as a stern but caring administrator earned him the respect of the students and faculty that he served as well as education professionals throughout the Lone Star State; moreover, Mr. Sigler served on numerous state and national educational committees, including the first Texas Vocational Advisory Board, the Accrediting Committee of the Southern Association of Secondary Schools, and the Commission for the Study of Vocational Education in Texas; and WHEREAS, There is no greater challenge or responsibility than the education of our children, and by providing them with a strong academic foundation, Sigler Elementary is helping to ensure that countless Texans will have access to all the opportunities that they deserve; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate E. A. Sigler Elementary School on 40 years of excellence in education and extend to the students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
