R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable Gordon Reece Davis on
January 13, 2005, is cause for reflection on this talented Texan's
many accomplishments, and the sorrow of the loss is perhaps
lessened by the sure knowledge that his was a life well lived; and
WHEREAS, A true renaissance man, Mr. Davis brought his
considerable gifts to a number of vocations during his life,
including those of salesman, executive, inventor, songwriter,
poet, postmaster, and deacon; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis also devoted much of his life to the public
good, serving at various times as a U.S. Army National Guardsman, a
justice of the peace, and as a member of the Texas House of
Representatives during the 47th, 48th, and 50th legislative
sessions; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Davis drew strength and
sustenance from his faith, and his inspiring example continues to
shine in the hearts of all who had the great good fortune to know
him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Gordon
Reece Davis and extend sincere sympathy to his sons, Gordon Ray,
Edward Reece, Melvin Lee, and Alex Andy, to his daughters, Sally
Elizabeth, Pamela, Beverly Reece, and Patsy Ruth, to the other
members of his family, and to his many friends and admirers; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gordon
Reece Davis.
