R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Alfred Curiel of San
Antonio were deeply saddened by his passing on September 19, 2004,
at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Alamo City to Joe and Guadalupe Flores
Curiel, Mr. Curiel served his country with distinction as a member
of the United States Air Force in the China-Burma-India theater
during World War II; he went on to become a Phi Beta Kappa graduate
of St. Mary's University and a respected employee with the Texas
Employment Commission, from which he retired as office manager at
the close of a career that spanned 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, his profession, and
his church, this generous individual faithfully served his fellow
congregants at Little Flower Basilica as a Eucharistic minister and
longtime CCD instructor; and
WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to have shared the love
and friendship of Alfred Curiel will long miss his presence, and he
will surely be remembered with great affection and admiration for
many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alfred Curiel and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of
51 years, Mary G. Curiel; to his children, Alfred G. Curiel and his
wife, Sarah, Liz Curiel, Kathleen C. Zerda, and Father Jim Curiel;
to his granddaughter, Karen Marie Zerda; to his sister, Mary Garza;
to his brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Gloria Curiel, Joe and
Gloria Curiel, and Robert and Olivia Curiel; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alfred
Curiel.
