H.R. No. 92 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Roy Huerta, Jr., on June 12, 2004, at the age of 53, brought a great loss to the family and friends of this beloved San Antonio resident; and WHEREAS, Mr. Huerta dedicated nearly four decades of his life to the San Antonio Express-News, where he was widely known and admired by his many colleagues; he began his distinguished tenure at the newspaper as a mail clerk in 1968, when he was only a junior in high school and, through the years, worked as office clerk, night copy supervisor, supervisor in advertising services, and assistant ad service manager before earning his post as manager of advertising operations; and WHEREAS, A vital member of the Express-News team, Mr. Huerta oversaw the allocation of editorial and advertising space and amicably resolved the inevitable conflicts that arose between the two departments; he is credited with moving production into the digital age, and, thanks in part to his contributions, the paper now boasts one of the most technologically advanced layout systems of any newspaper in the country; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan was active in a number of occupational and community organizations, serving as president of the American Newspaper Layout Managers Association, as an officer on the Deco District board, and as a member of the Jefferson Neighborhood Association and the Jefferson/Woodlawn Lake CDC Board; and WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional and civic commitments, Mr. Huerta found time to indulge his love of football by officiating at high school and college games and enjoyed membership in the San Antonio chapter of the Southwest Football Officials Association; and WHEREAS, A skilled and genial leader with a contagious enthusiasm for work and for life in general, Roy Huerta, Jr., touched the lives of many people during his years on this earth, and though his special presence will be deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Roy Huerta, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his devoted wife, Evelyn Huerta; to his son, Jeffrey Huerta, and his stepsons, Robert A. Benavides, Joshua M.
