R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of former City Councilman Robert Ross of San Antonio on August 29, 2004, at the age of 85, has brought a profound loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed man; and WHEREAS, Born in New York City on April 24, 1919, Bob Ross relocated to San Antonio in 1941 and enjoyed a successful career as a builder of homes and apartments; a former president of both the Texas and National Apartment Associations and the Jefferson Neighborhood Association and a representative to the San Antonio Coalition of Neighborhoods, he earned the lasting respect and admiration of all those who were privileged to work with him; and WHEREAS, Among Mr. Ross's greatest accomplishments was his admirable record of service as a member of the San Antonio City Council, a position he ably filled from 1993 until term limits dictated his resignation in 1997; credited with helping to bridge the gap between the Jewish and Hispanic communities, he was a tireless advocate of his constituents and took a special interest in water issues and in protecting the rights of the elderly; after his tenure with the council ended, he remained committed to the citizens of the Alamo City, advising his successor, Ed Garza, and later serving as a member of Mayor Garza's Committee on Integrity and Trust in Local Government; up until the time of his death, Mr. Ross distinguished himself as chair of the Joint City/County Commission on Elderly Affairs; and WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Hana, throughout his life, and he also took great pride in his four children and nine grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, the memory of Bob Ross will live on through the lasting legacy of achievement he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Ross and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 62 years, Hana Ross; to his sons, Steven Ross, and his wife, Sherri, Peter Ross, and his wife, Peggy, and Marc Ross, and his wife, Lauren; to his daughter, Sharon Ross Stern, and her husband, Bruce; to his grandchildren, Amanda, Alan, Andrew, Amy, Jennifer, Sam, and Rebecca Ross, and Stephanie and Allison Stern; to his brother, Al Ross, and his wife, Dorothy; to his brother-in-law, George Harkavy, and his wife, Miriam; and to his other family members and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert Ross.
