R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mary Lou Tamez of San Antonio passed away on October
4, 2004, at the age of 74, leaving behind a host of loved ones whose
lives were immeasurably enriched by her presence; and
WHEREAS, Born on January 16, 1930, to Peter D. Reed and Celia
Rodriguez Reed, Mrs. Tamez was the youngest of four children; she
graduated from Ursaline Academy in 1947, earned a bachelor's degree
in business administration from Trinity University, and went on to
attend St. Mary's School of Law; and
WHEREAS, In 1953, this accomplished Texan married Dr. Richard
J. Tamez, whom she affectionately called "Papooch," and in the
years that followed she built a happy home life for the couple's
four children, Richard, Marisa, Maurice, and Edward; and
WHEREAS, Witty and fun-loving, Mrs. Tamez enjoyed life to the
fullest, whether sharing another wonderful trip with her husband or
spending time with their close-knit family at home; caring and
giving as well, she enthusiastically lent her time and talents to
such worthy organizations as Los Sembradores de Amistad and the Pan
American League; and
WHEREAS, Those who had the privilege of knowing Mary Lou
Tamez will not soon forget the kindness, grace, and compassion she
brought to every facet of her life, and although she is deeply
missed, her memory will endure in the hearts of all who were touched
by her affection and friendship during her years on this earth; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Lou Tamez and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
husband, Dr. Richard J. Tamez; to her sons, Richard P. Tamez and his
wife, Irma, Maurice R. Tamez and his wife, Angela, and Edward J.
Tamez and his wife, Andrea; to her daughter, Dr. Marisa C. Inigo and
her husband, Jorge; to her grandchildren, Marisa T. Inigo, Jorge R.
Inigo, Richard D. Tamez, and Sebastian J. Tamez; to her brother,
Peter N. Reed; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Lou
Tamez.
