R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Audry Mae Owens Gardner on September
30, 2004, at the age of 73, has brought a profound loss to the family
and many friends of this beloved woman; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 8, 1931, in Linden to Alfred Owens and
Jewel Mae Rand, Audry Mae Owens wed Lawrence E. Gardner on December
11, 1947, and together the couple enjoyed a loving marriage that
would span more than 56 years and be blessed with three sons,
Edward, Don Wayne, and Lawrence Gardner, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her role in helping to raise a fine
family, Mrs. Gardner was also devoted to her community, and she was
affiliated with both the National Association of Negro Business and
Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., and the South Central Dallas
chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction; and
WHEREAS, This devout woman was also a valued congregant of
Good Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended services
regularly for nearly 50 years and was a member of the Miller-King
Bible class, the Deacon Wives, and the Mission Society; and
WHEREAS, In all aspects of her life, Mrs. Gardner exemplified
the highest ideals of integrity, compassion, and service, and she
will long be remembered for her zest for life and her love of family
and community; although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will
live on in the hearts of those whose lives were touched by her
friendship and affection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Audry Mae
Owens Gardner and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her
family: to her husband, Lawrence E. Gardner; to her son, Edward E.
Gardner; to her siblings, Alfred Owens, Jr., Brig Owens, David
Owens, Marvin Owens, Ted Owens, Dorothy Owens Whitehurst, Shirley
Owens McClanahan, Raymond Bolden, Jimmy Lee Bolden, Willie Sims
Bolden, and Jimmy Lawrence Bolden; to her daughter-in-law, Sylvia
Gardner; to her grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, and Alicia Gardner;
to her uncle, Willie E. Owens; and to her other friends and
relatives; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Audry Mae
Owens Gardner.
