R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wesley E. Hayes, Jr., celebrated his retirement as director of facilities at Richland College in Dallas on May 29, 2004, after decades of service to students in Texas and in Arkansas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was a director of facilities at Philander Smith College, Jarvis Christian College, and Bishop College, as well as at Richland College, and was also a math and industrial arts teacher at P. L. Dunbar Jr. High; the foundation of his career was laid at the Tuskegee Institute, where he earned a bachelor of science in mechanical industries, and at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University in Commerce, where he gained a graduate degree in industrial technology; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Arkansas to a devoutly religious family, Mr. Hayes has adhered to the beliefs of his faith from an early age; he was a Sunday school teacher and was involved with the youth department, scouting, and male chorus at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, which was led by his father, the Reverend W. E. Hayes, Sr.; and WHEREAS, As a congregant of the Good Street Baptist Church in Dallas, Mr. Hayes is secretary of the board of deacons; he also is a member of the board of the C. A. W. Clark Community Center and coordinator of the Bus Ministry for Seniors; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes has had an impressive career and made innumerable contributions to his community, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Wesley E. Hayes, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from Richland College and extend to him best wishes for the future as he begins a new phase in his life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hayes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
