H.R. No. 154


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Elinor Sedberry Jackson of Dallas was deservedly recognized for 50 years of dedicated service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and to her community on June 12, 2004; and WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Ms. Jackson earned a bachelor's degree from Bishop College in Marshall and pursued advanced studies in guidance and counseling at Prairie View A&M University and in education at North Texas State University; she retired from the Dallas Independent School District after 32 years of service; and WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson was initiated into Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., in 1954 and has served the chapter in numerous leadership positions over the years, including secretary, Founders' Day chair, Devotion Committee chair, and Sisterly Yours Committee cochair; she has also volunteered her time and energy to various other committees and chapter activities; and WHEREAS, A lady of poise and conviction, Ms. Jackson is affiliated with the Dallas Council of Garden Clubs, Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., the Wednesday Morning Study Club, the African American Museum, the National Teachers Association, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association; and WHEREAS, Throughout her years of service, Ms. Jackson has enjoyed the support of her husband, Alva C. Jackson, and the fellowship of Good Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves in the Sunday school, the Deacons' Wives Missionary Society, prayer groups, and the bereavement ministry; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan exemplifies the finest qualities of public service, and she is most deserving of special recognition for her five decades of contributions and achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Elinor Sedberry Jackson for her 50 years of effort in behalf of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
