H.R. No. 163


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Florence FFA brought great pride to their community with their exemplary performance at the 77th National FFA Convention held in Louisville, Kentucky, in October 2004; and WHEREAS, FFA is a national youth organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of its nearly 500,000 student members, who are preparing for careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture, by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education; the convention competitions encourage achievement and excellence in scholarship and develop interpersonal skills in teamwork and communication; and WHEREAS, Florence students Caitlin Frederick and Amber Krause earned a second national Agriscience Fair championship for their hometown FFA with their outstanding project entitled, "Organic Acid Wash: A Cleaner Beef"; the young women won first place in their division in the Biochemistry/Microbiology/Food Science category, receiving $500 each in addition to the $2,000 they secured at the state convention held in July; and WHEREAS, Competing on the Florence Ag Communications team were Joanna Hensley, Ray Skidmore, Katie Glover, and Kristin Wiehe; securing third place, the group was awarded a gold emblem in recognition of their "outstanding team" status, and, in addition, Ms. Wiehe earned a $900 college scholarship and Ms. Hensley acquired a $500 scholarship; and WHEREAS, These outstanding students, with the help of their families, teachers, coaches, and sponsors, have demonstrated an exceptional capacity for commitment, determination, and hard work, and their remarkable achievements serve as an inspiring example to all young Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Florence FFA team on its award-winning performance at the 77th National FFA Convention and extend to its members sincere best wishes for success in all their future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
