R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On February 16, 2005, many proud residents from Comanche County are gathering in Austin to celebrate Comanche County Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Created in 1856, Comanche County was named for the Comanche Indians, who once dominated the Southwest Plains; nestled in the hills of Central Texas, the area benefits from abundant natural resources that have given rise to a diverse agricultural economy; residents enjoy scenic vistas and the enchanting Lake Proctor, which provides a host of recreational activities and encourages tourism; and WHEREAS, The county seat of Comanche has been honored as a Texas Main Street City, and is home to "Old Cora," one of the oldest existing original courthouses in Texas; each year the county celebrates its storied past and unique heritage with traditional events such as the Comanche Pow-Wow and the De Leon Peach and Melon Festival; and WHEREAS, Residents of Comanche County may take great pride in the rich history of their community, and because of the energy and determination of those residents, they may look ahead to a bright and promising future as well; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2005, as Comanche County Day at the State Capitol and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes for a memorable visit to Austin.
