H.R. No. 174



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, February 23, 2005, marks the 100th anniversary of 
Rotary International, and this momentous occasion provides a 
fitting opportunity to recognize that outstanding organization as 
well as one of its finest chapters, the Amarillo West Rotary Club; 
and
	WHEREAS, Rotary International was founded in 1905 by Chicago 
attorney Paul Harris in an effort to provide professionals with 
opportunities for service projects and fellowship; since that 
important date, the organization has thrived and today boasts 
nearly 32,000 clubs throughout the world, each greatly contributing 
to the community it serves; and
	WHEREAS, The members of the Amarillo West Rotary Club and the 
other chapters of District 5730, which encompasses the Texas 
Panhandle, West Texas, and the South Plains, have long benefited 
the Lone Star State through their continuous support of a host of 
worthy projects; not only have they sponsored Interact and Rotaract 
clubs for high school and college students, foreign exchange 
programs, literacy projects, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 
camp, and the Rotary Diabetic Camp, their scholarships have also 
allowed many young Texans to pursue their dreams of attending 
college; moreover, their important work with Rotary International 
projects has ensured that much-needed items such as food, school 
supplies, and medicine are distributed across the globe; and
	WHEREAS, For 100 years, Rotarians worldwide have 
participated in projects that promote youth, health, literacy, 
peace, and understanding, and it is indeed a pleasure to join the 
Amarillo West Rotary Club in celebrating a century of "Service 
Above Self"; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Rotary International on the 
occasion of its 100th anniversary and recognize the Amarillo West 
Rotary Club for its many good works; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the Amarillo West Rotary Club as an expression of high 
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
