H.R. No. 189


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. T. David Greer of Henrietta received the Texas Family Physician of the Year Award in July 2004 from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP) for more than 30 years of exceptional service to his patients and his community; and WHEREAS, A chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the state's largest medical specialty organization, TAFP promotes and assures the maintenance of high-quality medical care in the Lone Star State; the criteria for the TAFP Physician of the Year Award require that candidates are compassionately dedicated to their patients, active in their communities, and identified as role models in their profession; each year, extraordinary family physicians throughout Texas are nominated by their patients, peers, and colleagues for this significant honor; and WHEREAS, Dr. David Greer treats some of the same patients in Henrietta today that were once in the care of his grandfather, Dr. Albert Greer; a native of Clay County, this beloved small-town physician received his training at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; after graduating in 1964 and serving his country as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army, this decorated Vietnam War veteran returned to his hometown in 1970 to open his own private practice; and WHEREAS, An active member of his community, Dr. Greer has served on the boards of the North Central Texas Medical Foundation, Clay County Memorial Hospital, Wichita County Medical Society, and Wichita Falls Family Practice Residency Association; he is a former president of the North Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the Henrietta Kiwanis Club and a former director of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce; a previous recipient of the TAFP Award for Advancement of Family Practice in Rural Texas, he has served on the Rural Health Committee of the Texas Medical Association; moreover, he has had a positive impact on countless medical students through his participation in the Senior Preceptorship programs at a number of medical schools; and WHEREAS, While taking care of others, this esteemed gentleman has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Lea Ann, his children, John and Jan, and his five granddaughters; and WHEREAS, Dr. David Greer's success is due in part to his proven ability to communicate with his patients and listen to their needs; practicing in a small town, his commitment to his patients extends beyond the typical doctor-patient relationship; still making occasional house calls and offering regular "curbside consultations," Dr. Greer demonstrates a steadfast dedication to his patients and to his community that makes him a truly deserving recipient of this noteworthy award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. T. David Greer on his receipt of the Texas Family Physician of the Year Award from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians and commend him for his outstanding professional accomplishments and civic contributions; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Greer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
