R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. David Molapo and the "I Can" Quintet are visiting the State Capitol on February 7, 2005; and WHEREAS, A well-known motivational speaker, author, and management consultant, Dr. Molapo has used his host of talents to inspire and guide countless South African residents; an expert on a range of topics, including quality management, communication, entrepreneurial skills, team building, leadership, and accepting change, he provides individuals with the confidence and tools needed to change their own lives and to help others; and WHEREAS, Dr. Molapo has overcome serious challenges in his own life; imprisoned for political activities at the age of 13, today he proudly delivers the important message that, "We are no longer prisoners of our past, but pioneers of our future"; and WHEREAS, The recipient of many prestigious accolades, Dr. Molapo has earned the Young Achiever of the Year-South Africa Award, the Four Outstanding Young South Africans Award, the PMR Silver Arrow Award, Rotary International's Paul Harris Fellow award, and the African Bank Reach for the Sky Award; and WHEREAS, This visionary leader is a highly regarded businessman and has served as chair of the SAA Transformation Commission and director of Dimension Data; he currently sits on the boards of several multinational companies; and WHEREAS, In 1991, Dr. Molapo organized the "I Can" Quintet to help spread his message of hope; part of the I Can Foundation, which promotes social justice, democracy, and community development, the a capella group includes Soweto natives Simon Morakhomo, Bongani Maseko, Thomas Sokhela, Thembinkosi Mbatha, and Thulane Galani; and WHEREAS, Since its inception, the quintet has performed at such important events as World AIDS Day, Women's Day, Youth Day, and World Health Day; and WHEREAS, Committed to spreading a powerful message of optimism and determination, Dr. Molapo and the "I Can" Quintet have inspired countless individuals across the globe, and it is a pleasure to honor their efforts at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby welcome Dr. David Molapo and the "I Can" Quintet to the State Capitol on February 7, 2005, and commend them for their continued contributions to keeping hope in the world.
