R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Raul G. Reyna of Edinburg on August
24, 2004, has brought great sorrow to this esteemed gentleman's
circle of loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1932 to Santos and San Juanita Reyna, he grew
up in a close-knit family with seven sisters and graduated from
Edinburg High School; a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he
attended The University of Texas-Pan American and graduated from
the FBI Academy; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of an impressive career dedicated to
the welfare and safety of his fellow Texans, Mr. Reyna was employed
with the Edinburg Police Department as a supervising sergeant for
15 years and the City of Pharr as its police chief for four years; he
also held the position of rehabilitation officer for the Hidalgo
County Sheriff's Department and retired as chief bailiff of the
332nd District Court under Judge Mario Ramirez after 12 years of
exemplary service; and
WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Reyna continued to work for
the betterment of the Edinburg community through various civic
endeavors; the founding scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop
No. 72, he was an active member of the American Legion, Knights of
Columbus, VFW Post No. 409, Woodmen of the World, and St. Joseph
Catholic Church; in addition, he took great pride in his family, his
home, and his well-tended garden; and
WHEREAS, The vibrant personality and generous spirit of Raul
Reyna earned him many friends during his lifetime, and he will long
remain in their memories; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Peña has justly recognized
Raul G. Reyna by passing this resolution in his behalf during the
Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Raul G. Reyna and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his devoted
wife of 51 years, Minerva Garza Reyna; to his son, Raul Reyna, Jr.;
to his grandchildren, Jimmy Roy, John Paul, Jude Michael, and Jade
Reyna; to his sisters, Maria Reyna Guzman, Sira Reyna Lozano, Lydia
Reyna Alvarez, Ciria Reyna, Simona Reyna Guerra, and Adelina Reyna
Rios; and to all who mourn the passing of this much-loved man; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Raul G.
Reyna.
