R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Susan B. Anthony (1820 - 1906) was an aggressive
participant in the fight against slavery; and
WHEREAS, Susan B. Anthony believed in the right for all
people, regardless of race, to be able to obtain educational
opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Susan B. Anthony made it her life's purpose to
advocate and defend women's rights; and
WHEREAS, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United
States, guaranteeing all women the right to vote, has also come to
be known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment; and
WHEREAS, Susan B. Anthony is one of only three women to have
been honored by a statue that has been placed in the United States
Capitol; and
WHEREAS, the Texas House of Representatives first recognized
Susan B. Anthony Day in Texas during the 63rd Legislature in 1973;
and
WHEREAS, a certified copy of H.C.R. 29 was framed together
with a portrait of Susan B. Anthony and has hung in the Hall of the
House for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, it has become a bipartisan tradition to celebrate
Susan B. Anthony Day and her lifelong effort to obtain suffrage for
American women; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature recognizes February 15th as Susan B. Anthony day in
Texas.
