H.R. No. 205
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Student Government Association (SGA)
and the SFA Alumni Association of Stephen F. Austin State
University are visiting the Capitol on February 16 and 17, 2005, and
this noteworthy occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor
these commendable organizations; and
WHEREAS, Serving as the voice of the student body, SGA is an
effective conduit through which students express concerns and make
suggestions to university administration; to that end, the
organization has executive, judicial, and legislative branches and
regularly passes legislation to improve the quality of student life
at the university and to ensure that students' views are reflected
in policies being implemented at the school; and
WHEREAS, Through its myriad endeavors, SGA helps to develop
future leaders of this state and nation and provides an important
forum for the more than 11,000 students currently enrolled; and
WHEREAS, Since 1925, over 94,000 men and women have graduated
from SFA, and these former students and other friends of the
university are ably represented by the nonprofit SFA Alumni
Association; the organization serves its membership through a host
of programs and activities that perpetuate an attitude of loyalty
and support to the school; moreover, the association, together with
the SFA Alumni Foundation, presents between $500,000 and $1 million
in scholarships and awards to approximately 900 students each year;
and
WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin State University has long been a
source of pride to its former and current students, faculty, and
administration, and the ongoing efforts of these organizations
ensure that it will remain a vital educational institution in the
State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize February 16 and 17, 2005, as SFA
Student Government Association and SFA Alumni Association Days at
the Capitol and extend to the organizations' members sincere best
wishes for a memorable and rewarding visit to Austin; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Student Government Association and the SFA Alumni
Association of Stephen F. Austin State University as an expression
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
