R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 70th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly cause for celebration, and on February 13, 2005, Birdie Mae Leona Grace Thomas of Houston is marking this significant milestone in her long and happy life; and WHEREAS, A native of Houston, she was raised in the city's historic Fifth Ward and is a 1952 graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, where she met her future husband, Carlton Wendell Thomas; and WHEREAS, Today the mother of five cherished daughters, Deborah, Cheryl, Pamela, Vicky, and Karen, she also takes great pride in the loving relationship she shares with her goddaughter, Samantha Robicheaux, her sons-in-law, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, In addition to rearing a fine family, this notable woman was a valued employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, during which time she never missed a single day of work; and WHEREAS, Since retiring in 2000, Mrs. Thomas still leads a busy life and enjoys her church activities, shopping, traveling, and spending time with friends and family; and WHEREAS, Birdie Thomas is beloved by many for her caring and generous nature, and with seven decades of wonderful memories, a loving family, and close friends, she indeed has reason to celebrate; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Birdie Mae Leona Grace Thomas on the momentous occasion of her 70th birthday and extend to her best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Thomas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
