R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, February 9, 2005, is an auspicious day of celebration and renewal for many Texans, as this date marks the observance of the Chinese New Year; and WHEREAS, Celebrated from the time of the first new moon of the year through the first full moon 15 days later, the Chinese New Year is traditionally an occasion on which families gather for joyful reunion, and an important aspect of the occasion is the ceremonial tribute to the family's ancestors; and WHEREAS, In honoring their forebears, celebrants of the Chinese New Year affirm the powerful continuity of life from generation to generation, and this profound connection to the past resonates throughout the family of humankind; and WHEREAS, In addition to remembering loved ones, the holiday also brings with it a range of colorful traditions, including the rituals of cleaning house, paying off debts, and wearing red to ensure good luck in the coming year; and WHEREAS, The celebration of the Chinese New Year is an apt expression of the Lone Star State's rich cultural diversity, and its beauty and significance are well worth the attention and reflection of all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 9, 2005, as the Chinese New Year and extend to all those celebrating this holiday sincere best wishes for success and happiness in the coming year.
