R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Joseph Hughes Snow of Angleton has deservedly been presented with the Pioneer Award from the Angleton Chamber of Commerce for his many contributions to the development, growth, and progress of his hometown and his devotion to the pioneer principles of country, duty, honor, faith, and family; and WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan, Mr. Snow comes from a long line of civic and political leaders in Brazoria County; his grandfather was a Brazoria County commissioner, and his father was the county sheriff, killed in the line of duty when Mr. Snow was a mere five days old; his mother spent many years as the county treasurer and chief deputy tax assessor-collector; and WHEREAS, Mr. Snow earned his degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University in 1941 and was commissioned a second lieutenant before bravely serving his country for four years in the South Pacific during World War II; and WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, he was hired by Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, where he enjoyed a successful and productive career spanning 35 years, including a decade at the company headquarters in Midland; and WHEREAS, His service to the Angleton community began in the 1940s with his tenure as a city councilman; in the ensuing years, he ably officiated as mayor of Angleton, and he was drainage commissioner, chairman of the planning and zoning committee, officer of the First Methodist Church, and a member of the board of directors of the Angleton Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, After his retirement from Dow in 1980, he founded Snow Consultants; he continues to be an active participant in this endeavor and also manages the Snow Building, which he constructed in 1983; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Snow is the loving husband of Pinky White Snow, and they are the parents of three cherished children, Joellen, Edie, and Joseph Hughes Snow IV; the couple have also been blessed with 13 grandchildren, all of whom have benefited from their grandparents' guidance and support; and WHEREAS, Mr. Snow has set an outstanding example of leadership and community service to which all may aspire, and it is indeed appropriate to honor him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Joseph Hughes Snow on being named Pioneer of the Year by the Angleton Chamber of Commerce and commend him for his many years of service in behalf of his community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Snow as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
