H.R. No. 258
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Many proud citizens of our state are with us today at
the State Capitol in connection with the biennial Austin visit
sponsored by Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN); and
WHEREAS, An alliance of 43 communities in 25 counties
surrounding Abilene, TMCN was created in 1994 to promote regional
identity and to foster cooperation on economic development, tourism
development, regional promotion, and legislative awareness; and
WHEREAS, In addition to organizing activities to further
these goals, TMCN also helps to identify emerging leaders, to
develop their skills and deepen their understanding for regional
issues, and to facilitate communication and networking among them;
and
WHEREAS, On the agenda for this notable delegation are visits
to the house and senate chambers, and a reception honoring
legislators who represent the TMCN region and Governor Rick Perry,
a native son of the Texas Midwest; and
WHEREAS, The day will also offer public-spirited citizens
from the Texas Midwest an opportunity to meet with their elected
officials to discuss concerns pertinent to their area; and
WHEREAS, TMCN is playing a vital role in strengthening the
Lone Star State, and it is most appropriate that it be commended for
its efforts to provide a strong voice for rural Texas, encourage
civic participation in the legislative process, and draw attention
to matters of importance to the region; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize February 16, 2005, as Texas Midwest
Day at the Capitol and honor the Texas Midwest Community Network for
its outstanding service.
