R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After working more than 38 years in the field of
human services, Donald M. Loving is retiring as executive director
of Communities in Schools-Central Texas, Inc., in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Loving, who holds a master's degree in social
work from Tulane University, began his career as a child protective
services worker in rural Texas; he went on to become a significant
figure in his profession whose impressive resume includes such
leadership positions as executive director of Youth Alternatives in
New Orleans, where he founded one of the first crisis centers for
runaways, director of the Arkansas Youth Training Institute, and
executive director of The Children's Center in Galveston; and
WHEREAS, Currently in his 14th year as executive director of
Communities in Schools, Mr. Loving has led this outstanding
organization through a period of phenomenal growth to become a
200-member agency serving 44 prekindergarten through 12th grade
schools in seven Central Texas school districts; in addition,
Communities in Schools operates a number of large projects that
assist campus-based staff; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Loving's numerous professional achievements
include establishing the National Network for Youth, which he
served as chair of its board of directors for two years; he has also
served as president of the United Way Executives' Council, chair of
the Austin Area Human Services Association, and president of
Communities in Schools of Texas, Inc.; moreover, Mr. Loving has
shared his knowledge and expertise with others as an adjunct
faculty member of the School of Social Work at The University of
Texas in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Loving's integrity and dedication have earned
for him the lasting respect of all who have been privileged to know
of his work and accomplishments, and it is a pleasure to honor him
for an exemplary career as he embarks on the next chapter in his
life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Donald M. Loving on the occasion of
his retirement from Communities in Schools-Central Texas, Inc., in
Austin and commend him for his life's work, which has positively
influenced countless young people in the Lone Star State; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Loving as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
